A New Domain Name

Following a trawl through the domain name registration services I settled for www.freeparking.co.uk/  and registered fentyler.co.uk

I was charged £9.99 for registering this domain name for 2 years. The maintenance services include a DNS manager allowing the user to edit the domain’s zone file.

In the first instance I am accepting the default values for the zone file, but eventually I plan to experiment with that or to use a free domain name service such as www.ZoneEdit.com or www.granitecanyon.com for my new domain name

One of the features of freeparking’s service is free web forwarding using URL masking:

“You can have us automatically redirect all requests for web pages from your domain to another web site. Because we use URL masking your domain name will remain in the browser's address bar. Simply enter the complete URL of the domain name you want to forward to. (e.g. http://www.myfreeisp.com/myspace/ ) “

At this point in my learning curve this appears to have many advantages:

1.       More time to explore the mysteries of the zone file

2.       Redirection of my free domain name (fentyler.no-ip.com) to fentyler.co.uk

3.       I can continue to use the no-ip dynamic update client

After waiting 12 hours or so for my new domain name to propagate across the internet servers, my new domain name is up-and-running
